LYSSES Ensemble Tour 2018 – Stop 5

Gaudeamus, Utrecht (NL) with IEMA


Young talented musicians from all over Europe join the annual International Ensemble Modern Academy to form a big chamber music ensemble. They will start working on the following programme in Frankfurt in April and then follow up in August:


Anders Hillborg – Tivoli

Javier Quislant – commissioned new work

Mikolaj Laskowski – commissioned new work in the framework of the ULYSSES Journeys


The ULYSSES Ensemble is conducted by Lucas Vis.


The concert is a co-production of Gaudeamus and IEMA and takes place in the framework of the Gaudeamus Muziekweek in Utrecht, the Netherlands at TivoliVredenburg on Saturday 8th September 2018.

ULYSSES Ensemble Tour 2018 – Royaumont Foundation

In the framework of the ULYSSES Network, Fondation Royaumont in collaboration with four other partners  (IEMA, Gaudeamus, Divertimento Ensemble, Ircam), offer young high-level performers the opportunity to take part in a musical journey: each partner suggests a specific repertoire to the selected musicians, that is rehearsed and performed on site.

ULYSSES Ensemble Tour 2018 – IRCAM Programme 2

Beat Furrer, conductor, musicians from the Ensemble intercontemporain

The Swiss conductor and composer Beat Furrer will lead a master class for the ULYSSES Ensemble with the complicity of the soloists from the Ensemble intercontemporain who will advise the young musicians and perform works with them.

ULYSSES Ensemble Tour 2018 – IRCAM

This interpretation master class for orchestra offers young musicians from the ULYSSES Ensemble to work alongside musicians from the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, rehearsing and performing sketches written by young composers from the academy as well as Hymnen (Dritte Region), a monumental work elaborated by Stockhausen from 1966 to 1969, introducing the musicians to electronics.

Divertimento Ensemble invites the ULYSSES Ensemble to learn two masterpieces by renowned composers while working side by side with two well-established Italian composers.
During rehearsals under the baton of Sandro Gorli, the presence of Mauro Lanza and Marco Momi offers young musicians the chance to take their advice and recommendations.

ULYSSES Ensemble Tour 2018. IEMA-Ensemble meets ULYSSES-Ensemble

The Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie and Gaudeamus invite the ULYSSES Ensemble to join the young musicians from the IEMA- Ensemble of the Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie to work together on a recent piece by the Swedish composer Anders Hillborg as well as a new work by Javier Quislant commissioned by the ULYSSES Network. The ULYSSES Ensemble will also premiere a new work by ? Lawskowski – the IEMA-Ensemble will focus on a new piece by Yongbom Lee put forward by the IEMA.

Conversation Cafe: Spanish Impressions

Conversation Cafe at The Alev Lenz Studio presents the first of our musical exploration evenings! A night to hear music of any era and genre, from all corners of the world in a relaxed and intimate environment. Let us share with you music that inspires us, from old favourites to new discoveries, forgotten classics and eclectic new works.... 

Our first night, ‘Spanish Impressions’, will be based around music from and inspired by España. Come along to enjoy live performances of classical and non-classical works, improvisation, poetry and more.
